Fitteds

Fitted diapers basically look like a disposable diaper, but are made of cloth [duh] and require a cover, like the prefold. They're made out of cotton, flannel, organic bamboo velour [obv], cotton velour [cv], bamboo fleece, just to name a few. They can have snaps, aplix [velcro], or be snappiable [yes, this is a word! meaning, compatible with a Snappi fastener]. they are a very basic way to diaper your baby, that is unless you fall into the fitteds hype.... more on that in the next paragraph... My first fitted was a sock monkey Piddle Poddle. AMAZING. the bamboo velour was HEAVEN, and the absorption was just insane. Amanda gave it to me on a steal! it was fabulous! i was looking for a good overnight diaper, since baby M was firehosing her poor Fuzzi Bunz for some reason at night, hence waking me from my beauti sleep. which was NOT HAPPENING. So Amanda suggested the Piddle, and I fell in love with OBV.
Organic material is the big thing in this world, with cute prints and hard to find fabrics making the world of the fitted super expensive if you get carried away. For instance, the term "the Goodmama love" does not, in fact, refer to your husband's love for you, his most impeccable and wonderful wife. Although i have no doubt that you are, in fact, a good mama, these fitted diapers have achieved cult status. Especially one called "first love" which, upon inspection, is not that fabulous, but from the hype, you'd expect it to be cast in gold and have doves fly out and a choir of angels sing upon opening it. These diapers can be scalped....errrmmmm, i mean...."sold" on diaperswappers [more details on this website will come in a post in the near future] for MORE THAN RETAIL. sometimes more than DOUBLE the *cough* mere *cough* $35.00 USD that they sell for on thegoodmama.com. UNREAL. i couldn't believe that mamas were buying these. untillllll i got one for a screaming deal. THEN i was hooked. like crack cocaine, one hit is all it takes to hook you. A lot of the mamas are going back to the regular OBV and getting rid of their prints right now, which i think is crazy, but who am i to judge?? so, thanks to the sales and deals from that trend, i got my first GM. My first was Spoiled, a light blue with black dots and black snaps. *sigh* Then came Sugar Skulls, which i got for cheeeeeep because one snap was missing that didn't affect function. Black with hot pink skulls and hot pink snaps, it was LOVE.
but then.... i found the Music Lover.
white diaper, with black and hot pink DJ headphones.
black snaps.
black serging.
i started stalking them onlinem but they were an elusive bunch, playing with my emotions, leading me on. They were out of print, making even the used ones invaluable and going quickly for high prices. heartbroken and out of paypal, i waited.
until this week.
NEW IN PACKAGE.
NEVER WORN OR WASHED.
MUSIC LOVER.
quickly clicking on the link, i was heartbroken to read
"only shipping to US mamas"
so i messaged the mama, begging [yes. begging.] her to reconsider, never expecting her to actually do it.
but she DID!
and it is ON THE WAY!!
this mama is amazing!
so that will be the last of my Goodmama purchases. i mean, really, who pays $35 bucks for a DIAPER. Comparatively speaking, i could just flush the money down the toilet, since the diaper and the money would be in contact with human waste, [but i know that diapering is worth it!] but no more GMs for me.
[this is more for me to promise to myself, and for my husband, who can later use this as proof if i feel the itch again.]
So ANYWAYS [wow have i ever gotten off topic! obsessed? ME???] these diapers have to be covered with a cover, wrap, or wool article. Does it feel like a shame to cover up the adorable prints? YES! alot of mamas have their babes running around without covers at home, which works well, just gotta make sure you're paying attention to the....erm... wettness condition.... of the diaper. or you could have a HUGE mess.
Also, i might add that the fitted preferenced mamas are a very granola-esque group, especially the ones who use wool for covers. To the pocket mamas out there, they seem a wee bit elitist, that is until the OBV fever catches on, and the pocket mama learns to understand.... as far as wool goes, I have one pair of longies on the way, just to try em out. but thats for another post....

fitteds are fabulous, but you've been warned.... beware of the Goodmama love!!!!!
