So the number one question that I get my " 'Sposers" [nonCDers] is
ISN'T IT GROSS??? HOW DO YOU DO IT??
and my answer is: no, and it's easy.
Currently, everyone is super concerned with the environment. Babies generate a TON OF GARBAGE. Look at the contraptions that they've created for disposable diapers. The ever so famous Diaper Genie, for instance. basically makes poopy diaper sausages, creating even more garbage as it goes by wrapping the nasty, soiled sposies in clear plastic [non biodegradable, i bet] casing, as well as the box and assembly instructions and plastic that the genie comes in. so much for a bottle. that would have been more environmentally friendly. Really, i don't understand how people think CDing is gross, when REALLY a diaper genie is a storage container for rotting fecal matter that sits in the nurseries of babies all over North America.... I would take rinsing off a poopy diaper over taking out the 2 week old poo sausage ANY DAY. but i digress...
Some cloth diaper statistics [taken from EnviroZine, a Canadian website]
Fast Facts:
Even when using disposable diapers, the contents should be emptied into the toilet so that the waste can be properly treated.
In the first two years, the average baby will require between 5000 to 7000 diaper changes.
Disposable diapers in landfills can prevent water from soaking to the ground.
Washing a load of diapers once or twice a week is roughly equivalent to flushing a toilet five times a day for a week.
Cloth diapers encourage babies to potty train faster than disposables, because with disposable diapers, the babies seldom feel any wetness or discomfort.
Over four million disposable diapers are discarded in Canada per day.
so you tell me, what's "gross"?
